Hardware Assumptions

Hardware Assumptions

Overview of hardware assumptions.

All Tablet PC hardware must support the following features:

  • Hardware digitizer must support hovering and provide at least 133 samples per second at 1,000 dots per inch (dpi) with an absolute screen-to-digitizer accuracy of 2 millimeters.
  • Resuming from standby must take less than 2 seconds.
  • A primary display must support both landscape and portrait orientation.
  • Standby time must exceed 72 hours because extended battery life is crucial.
  • grab-and-go docking (docking and undocking the tablet computer without advance notice) must be considered.
  • Legacy-free status, as defined in the PC 2001 System Design Guide, must be maintained.

Each of these hardware assumptions is discussed in the following sections.
