API Changes from MCMS 2002

The MCMS 2002 APIs have been completely rewritten for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to work with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Changes to the MCMS 2002 APIs include:

  • The MCMS 2002 APIs have been replaced with the following new namespaces:

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Administration

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Administration.WebServices

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Design.WebControls

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Fields

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.WebControls

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.WebControls.EditingMenuActions

    • Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.WebServices

  • The COM-based API has been entirely replaced by managed code. This is a major change for the site deployment API.

  • You can access many more features by using the API than you could in MCMS 2002, such as changing user rights programmatically.
