Manage Microsoft Content Management Server migration profiles

You can use the Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles page to migrate content from a server that runs Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 to a server that runs Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. To migrate content, create and then run one or more content migration profiles.

To manage Microsoft Content Management Server migration profiles, open the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles page:

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Operations.

  2. On the Operations page, in the Upgrade and Migration section, click Microsoft Content Management Server migration.

What do you want to do?

  • Create a new migration profile

  • Edit a migration profile

  • Run a migration

  • Analyze a migration

  • Delete a migration profile

Create a new migration profile

  1. On the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles page, click New Migration Profile.

  2. In the Name and Description section, type a name for the migration profile in the Name box.

  3. In the Description box, type a description for the migration profile.

  4. In the Source Database section, in the Database server name box, type the name of the database server containing the content that you want to migrate.

  5. Depending on how the source database server is configured to authenticate, select either Windows authentication or SQL authentication.

  6. In the User name and Password boxes, enter the credentials of the account to use to connect to the source database server.

  7. Click Connect.

    The database server is queried for a list of databases that are eligible for migration.

  8. In the Database name box, select the database that you want to migrate.

  9. In the Destination section, click a destination Web application on the Web application menu.

  10. On the Site collection menu, click a destination site collection.

    For more information about destination site collection, see Create a blank site collection as a migration or deployment destination.

  11. In the Top-Level Site section, in the Site you want to migrate as the top-level site box, select the site that you want to migrate as the top-level site.

    Both the site that you select and the content within that site is migrated.

  12. In the Language section, select the language to use for the sites that you are migrating.

  13. In the Notification section, if you want to receive an e-mail message after a migration succeeds, select the Send e-mail when the migration job succeeds check box.

  14. If you want to receive an e-mail message after a migration fails, select the Send e-mail if the migration job fails check box.

  15. If you select either the Send e-mail when the migration job succeeds or the Send e-mail if the migration job fails check boxes, type an e-mail address in the Type e-mail addresses box.

  16. Click OK.

Edit a migration profile

On the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles page, click Edit on the menu of the profile that you want to edit.

Run a migration

  1. On the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles page, click Run on the menu for the migration profile that you want to run.

  2. On the Run Migration page, select one of the following:

    • Migrate changes that have occurred since the previous migration   Select this option to migrate changes that occurred in the source site collection after the last migration.

    • Migrate all data and delete any previously migrated data   Select this option to replace all data in the destination site collection with the data from the source site.

      Warning

      This action deletes all data currently in the destination site collection.

      The status of the migration is reported in the Status column.

Analyze a migration

Before a migration profile is run, you can check it for problems and create a report.

Note

When you run a migration profile, an analysis of that profile is automatically run.

On the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles page, click Analyze on the menu for the migration profile that you want to analyze.

The status of the migration analysis is reported in the Status column.

Delete a migration profile

  1. On the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles page, click Delete on the menu of the profile that you want to edit.

  2. Click OK in the message box that asks you whether you want to proceed with the deletion.
