Create an information management policy usage report when you want to see how and when information management policies are being used on sites in a Web farm. The time needed to generate the report depends on several factors. Among the factors are the following:

  • The number of information management usage policies implemented on the Web farm

  • The number of libraries and folders created

  • The number of items in the farm

Because the report can take a long time to generate and consume significant system resources, we do not recommend that you generate the report unless you need the information included in the report.

Note

Creating an information management policy usage report can adversely affect system performance while the report is being generated.

Important

Membership in the Central Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To create an information management policy usage report

Use this procedure to create an information management policy usage report.

Create an information management policy usage report

  1. In Central Administration, click the Operations tab.

  2. On the Operations page, in the Logging and Reporting section, click Information management policy usage reports.

  3. On the Information Management Policy Usage Reports page, in the Report File Location section, enter the location in which you want to store the information management policy usage report in the Report file location. Click Check URL to verify the specified URL.

    Important

Because the report contains sensitive data, such as the content types in use on your farm, the specified file location should be a secure folder.

  4. In the Schedule Recurring Reports section, click Create Reports Now.

    Note

You can also schedule recurring reports to run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. However, due to the performance impact, we do not recommend scheduling recurring reports. The reports should be generated ad hoc, when needed.

  5. In the Report Template section, ensure Use the default report template is selected.

  6. Click OK.
