Manage permissions for publishing
Applies To: Office SharePoint Server 2007
This Office product will reach end of support on October 10, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see , Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.
When the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature is activated for a site collection, three new permission levels and six new SharePoint groups are created. These levels and groups are automatically made available at both the site collection and site levels. As an administrator, you use these permission levels and groups to delegate specific areas of responsibility to different users for publishing sites. For example, you can limit which users have the ability to approve content for publishing by adding them to the Approvers group. You can also create your own custom groups, and assign specific permission levels to those groups. For example, you may want certain users to be able to both approve content and manage the hierarchy of content within the site, so you would create a new custom group for that purpose.
Although these permission levels and groups are unique to publishing sites, you manage them the way you manage all other permission levels and groups in SharePoint, by using the People and groups page, which is accessed from the Site Settings page for a site collection or site.
The following table describes the additional permission levels that are made available for sites after the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature is activated.
