You can author and modify application definition XML files by using the Business Data Catalog Definition Editor tool. Application definitions provide the metadata that is required to connect to a line-of-business application so that data from the application can be used in Web Parts, lists, user profiles, and search results in your SharePoint sites.
Note
An application definition is an XML file that is imported to the Business Data Catalog for each application. It is not the same as the enterprise application definition for single sign-on.
Before you perform this procedure, confirm that:
You have read the topic Manage application definitions.
Your system is running either the Standard or Enterprise version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
