Conflicting components of Team Foundation Server are installed

The Best Practices Analyzer tool for Team Foundation Server checks whether components of Team Foundation Server are already installed on the servers that you are scanning.

Note

This rule is checked and applies only when Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server is deployed.

For a dual-server deployment of Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server, two components of Team Foundation Server are installed. Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server (services) is installed on the application-tier server, and Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server (databases) is installed on the data-tier server. You cannot install some components of Team Foundation Server onto a computer where another component is already installed or a different version of the same component is already installed.

An error appears if an existing component of Team Foundation Server is already installed on a server that you are scanning. To resolve this issue, you might need to uninstall Team Foundation Server from one of those servers. 

To uninstall Team Foundation Server

  • Perform the following procedures, which are provided in the installation guide for Team Foundation.
