The Best Practices Analyzer tool for Team Foundation Server queries the SQL Server master database for the instancename server property.
An error appears if the tool determines that the instancename key is longer than 0. You cannot install Team Foundation Server if you used a named instance to install the SQL Server databases.
Note
This rule applies to deployments of Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server only. (Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server supports named instances of SQL Server.)
To resolve this issue, you must uninstall and reinstall SQL Server.
To uninstall and reinstall SQL Server 2005
Uninstall the named instance of SQL Server 2005.

Reinstall SQL Server 2005. Make sure that you click Default instance on the Instance Name page.
