SQL Server is not installed

The information in this article applies to:

The Best Practices Analyzer tool for Team Foundation Server checks the configuration of the servers that require SQL Server to be installed. An error appears if SQL Server is not installed on the single server for a single-server deployment or not installed on the data-tier server in a dual-server deployment. You must resolve this error condition before you install Team Foundation Server.

Note

Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server supports deployment of either SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.  

To resolve this issue, you must install SQL Server 2005 on the appropriate computer for your deployment. You can install SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition. Team Foundation Server includes a licensed copy of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.

Required Permissions

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators security group on the server where you are installing SQL Server.

To install SQL Server 2005 for Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server

  1. Download the most recent version of the Team Foundation Installation Guide for Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server from the Microsoft Download Center.

  2. Follow the procedures in the topic that is appropriate for your deployment:

    • For information about single-server deployment, see "How to: Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for Team Foundation Server (Single-Server Deployment)."

    • For information about dual-server deployment, see "How to: Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for Team Foundation Server (Dual-Server Deployment)."

To install SQL Server 2005 for Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server

  1. Download the most recent version of the Team Foundation Installation Guide for Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server from the Microsoft Download Center.

  2. Follow the procedures in the topic that is appropriate for your deployment:

    • For information about single-server deployment, see "How to: Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for Team Foundation Server (Single-Server Deployment) on Windows Server 2003."
