Add/Modify Connection (Microsoft SQL Server Compact)

The Add Connection dialog box for Microsoft SQL Server Compact enables you to specify settings, such as database and password for this connection. This dialog box appears when Microsoft SQL Server Compact is selected under Data Source in the Choose/Change Data Source dialog box.

After a connection is established, the database appears in Server Explorer. You can design programs to open connections and exchange data, or directly access and work with data by using Visual Database Tools.

  • Data source box
    Specifies the data source and data provider.

  • Change
    Opens the Change Data Source dialog box, where you can select a data source and data provider.

  • Data Source radio buttons
    Specify whether the data source is located on the development computer or on a device connected by ActiveSync.

  • Database
    Specifies the file name of the database.

  • Create
    Opens the Create New SQL Server Compact Database dialog box, where you can specify a file name and password for the new database.

  • Browse
    Opens the Select SQL Server Compact Database File dialog box, where you can select an existing SQL Server Compact database file (.SDF).

  • Password
    Specifies the password for the database.

  • Save My Password
    Saves the password for the database. If selected, you do not have to re-enter the password when you access the database in Server Explorer.

  • Advanced
    Opens the Advanced Properties dialog box, where you can specify properties for the connection.

  • Test Connection
    Tests the connection to the database specified in the Database box.
