Starting the Remote Tools Shell (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

You can choose to start the Remote Tools Shell using a variety of methods.

Note

There can only be one active instance of the Remote Tools Shell at any time. If you try to start another instance, Windows brings the existing instance to the foreground.

To start the Remote Tools Shell using Windows Explorer

  • Navigate to the following directory in your installation and then run RemoteToolsShell.exe.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Remote Tools Framework\1.00\bin
    

To start the Remote Tools Shell from a command-line prompt window

  1. Open a command-line prompt window, and then at the prompt, navigate to the following directory.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Remote Tools Framework\1.00\bin 
    
  2. To start the shell, type the following command.

    RemoteToolsShell
    

To start the Remote Tools Shell with a plug-in

  1. To start the Remote Tools Shell with a plug-in running, perform one of the following actions.

    • In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Remote Tools Framework\1.00\bin. Then drag and drop a .cetool or .rtfxdata file onto RemoteToolsShell.exe.

    • In a command-line prompt window, navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Remote Tools Framework\1.00\bin.

      Note

      If you use this method to open a plug-in, the Select Device dialog box appears, and you must select the device on which you want to run the plug-in.

      Then enter the following syntax using a .cetool or .rtfxdata file as a parameter.

      RemoteToolsShell <NameOfFile>
