Creating an Empty Display-Based OS (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/6/2010

The following steps describe how to create an empty display-based Windows Embedded CE OS without additional feature support.

An empty OS is a good starting point for investigating single Catalog items or other OS design changes in isolation.

Note

These steps create a small and simple OS; however, they do not create the smallest possible Windows Embedded CE-based OS.

To create an empty display-based OS

  1. In Platform Builder, from the File menu, choose New, and then choose Project.

  2. On the New Project dialog box, choose Platform Builder for CE 6.0. Make sure OS Design is selected as the template.

  3. Type a name for your project in the Name box.

  4. If you want to give your project solution a unique name, type a name for your solution in the Solution Name box.

  5. Confirm the path for your project in the Location box, and then choose Ok.

  6. The Windows Embedded CE 6.0 OS Design - Welcome page appears. Choose Next.

  7. Choose a Board Support Package (BSP), and then choose Next.

  8. On the Design Templates page, choose Custom Device, and then choose Next.

  9. Skip the subsequent dialog boxes by choosing Next until you get to the dialog box in which you specify the Shell and User Interface options.

  10. From the list of options, choose Shell and choose Finish.
