Supported DLNA Media Device Classes (Compact 7)
3/12/2014
DLNA defines media device classes for home and mobile networks. The following table describes these classes and their support in Windows Embedded Compact 7.
DLNA Media Device Classes
Device class | Home or mobile device | Definition | Supported on Windows Embedded Compact 7 platform |
---|---|---|---|
Digital media controller (DMC) |
Home network device (HND) |
UPnP control-point device that can discover other devices, such as digital media server (DMS), mobile digital media server (M-DMS), and digital media renderer (DMR), on a network. A DMC can browse media content exposed by a DMS, match it to the rendering capacities of a DMR, and set up the connections between the DMS and the DMR. A DMC typically has a UI, through which the user controls the playback experience on the DMR. |
Yes |
Digital media renderer (DMR) |
HND |
UPnP media renderer device that can render media items pushed from a DMC or mobile digital media controller (M-DMC) device on the same network. |
Yes |
Digital media player (DMP) |
HND |
UPnP control-point device that can discover DMS and M-DMS devices on the same network, browse media content exposed by a DMS, and render it locally. A DMP typically has a UI, through which the user controls the playback experience. |
Yes |
Digital media server (DMS) |
HND |
UPnP media server device that hosts media items and responds to browse requests and search requests for media items from DMC and M-DMC devices. |
No |
Digital media controller (M-DMC), mobile digital media player (M-DMP), digital media server (M-DMS) |
Mobile handheld device |
UPnP mobile devices of the DMC, DMR, DMP, and DMS device classes. These devices are considered mobile devices with different media streaming or decoding requirements. |
