Configuring Wireless Access Points

After you have completed the configuration for TESTSERVER, you need to configure your wireless access points. All wireless networking traffic passes through the access points. Therefore all three access points must be connected to TESTSERVER through a local area network (LAN). You must complete the following steps for each access point.

Microsoft used Cisco** access points for this test scenario. The procedures in this document refer to Cisco-based hardware and software. If you use a different access point to set up your 802.1x network, refer to the product-specific documentation.

When configuring your access points use the following Service Set Identifiers (SSIDs):

  • OPEN

  • SHARED

  • CE8021X

    Note   SSIDs are case-sensitive. If you want to test roaming throughout multiple access points, you must use the same SSID for each access point that is used in the roaming scenario.

To configure your wireless access points

  1. Adjust the antenna on your access point so that it points straight up.

  2. Connect the access point to the hub that is connected to TESTSERVER by using an Ethernet cable.

  3. Plug in the power for the access point.

  4. On TESTSERVER, start DHCP server and connect your access point to the network if you haven't already done so. The server automatically assigns an IP address to the access point.

  5. To browse the management pages for your access point, on TESTSERVER launch the Web browser and in the address bar, type the IP address for your access point.

    The configuration page for the access point appears in the Web browser window.

  6. Choose the Setup tab, and then choose Express Setup.

  7. In the Radio Service Set ID (SSID) field, type an SSID for the access point, and then choose OK.

  8. Under Services, choose Security, and then choose Radio Data Encryption (WEP).

    The following table shows the configuration information for each access point for the AP Radio Data Encryption page.

    For the SHARED and CE8021X access points, type a 10-digit WEP key, and specify 40 bits as the key size. You will be asked to type the same 10-digit WEP key when you connect the CEPC to the SHARED and CE8021X access points in the Testing Wireless Connectivity procedures. Do not set a key size for the OPEN access point.

    After you have configured the encryption settings, choose OK.

  9. For CE8021X, on the Security Setup page, choose Authentication Server. The following table shows the values to set on the Authenticator Configuration page.

  10. When you have completed the configuration of the Authentication Server, choose OK.
