Configuring a Serial Remote Connection

You can use a serial port connection to debug an OS image that is transferred to a target device by an Ethernet connection. For target devices that do not have an Ethernet connection, download and debug using a serial port. You can also download through a serial port, but a serial boot loader is required. A serial boot loader (Sboot.bin) is provided on the x86 boot floppy disk.

To configure a serial remote connection

1. Start the target device.

2. Connect a null modem cable from the development workstation to the COM2 serial port on the target device.

3. From the Target menu, choose Configure Remote Connection.

4. Select the Services tab, and then, from the Download list, choose Serial.

5. Select the Services tab again, and choose Configure.

   The following table shows the settings to use in the Configure Serial Download Service dialog box.

   Field	Setting
   Port	COM2
   Baud Rate	115200
   Flow Control	None
   Data Bits	8
   Parity	None
   Stop Bits	1

6. To complete the configuration process and close the dialog box, choose OK twice.
