NEC DDB-Vr4122 (Eagle) SDB Hardware Restrictions and Limitations
The v4102, v4111, v4121, and v4122 microprocessor revisions are supported. If you are using an unsupported microprocessor you will be notified through the serial debug output.
PCI expansion is supported through compact PCI. Set the jumpers to 5 volts.
Only video is supported on the internal PCI bus with the MQ200. Set the jumpers to 3 volts.
If you are using the MQ200 display card, be sure that switch S1 on the MQ200 is set to the DOWN position or the MQ200 will not function correctly.
Compact PCI is not supported. Use the built in PCI slot for the MQ200 display card.
MD5 CHAP and Microsoft CHAP (both versions 1 and 2) authentication does not work on the NEC DDB-Vr4122 Eagle SDB in MIPS 16-32 and MIPS 16-16 modes. A valid user cannot get authenticated using either authentication protocol.
Inserting a 128-MB Compact Flash card on the NEC DDB-Vr4122 Eagle SDB results in Platform Builder displaying an Unidentified PC Card Adapter dialog box and prompts you to enter the name of the driver for the card. Using Windows Explorer to browse for the name of the driver will be unsuccessful because Windows Explorer does not display the Compact Flash card as a storage card.
The audio driver on this development board does not support full-duplex mode. To have a Communications Services (real-time communications) VoIP session, an OEM or an application developer should implement half-duplex communication support over the existing audio driver. Because the audio driver is not a low-latency driver, there will be delays in voice communication.
The onboard single PCI slot on the NEC DDB-Vr4122 Eagle SDB supports 3.3V PCI cards only.
If a PCI-based Permedia 3 display card is inserted in one of the PCI slots on the NEC DDB-Vr4122 Eagle SDB and the OS image does not include a display option, the SDB fails to boot the image.
A new CPU module has been released by NEC that fixes some PCI issues. Windows CE .NET has not been updated to accommodate the changes, but the SDB will still boot. A detection routine has been added that will indicate this with a debug message, but currently the CPU version number has not been updated, and so this detection routine is bypassed. Although it may appear that everything is working correctly, the new CPU module only supports one bus-mastering device on the PCI bus. Contact NEC for additional information.
The NEC DDB-Vr4122 Eagle SDB requires an Engineering Change Order (ECO) to help correct PCI bus arbitration problems. See NEC for more details.
The OAL code provided in Windows CE .NET supports the HARP PCI expansion bus by default. To use the NEC PCI extender card, the interrupt-slot assignments need to be changed. See NEC for more details.
When using PCI bus expansion and requiring support for 5V cards, SDB jumper setting changes are required. See NEC for more details.
The onboard IrDA hardware on the NEC DDB-Vr4122 Eagle SDB supports Fast IR; however, because of performance problems with the IrDA driver, the throughput rate is significantly slower than the Fast IR transfer rate. There may also be some interoperability issues with standard serial IrDA.
MIPS16 code can only be run on VR41XX microprocessors that are running in MIPS16 mode.
