Using the Preferences Tab
Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Vista
On the Preferences tab in the Settings dialog box, you can:
Join or leave the ACT Community.
Send your ACT usage data to Microsoft.
Receive notification automatically when there is an update to the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT).
To access the Preferences tab
On the Tools menu of the Application Compatibility Manager, click Settings.
Click the Preferences tab.
Joining the ACT Community
As a member of the ACT Community, you have the ability to share application compatibility data with other registered ACT users. After you click Send and Receive Data, you have the option to review your application compatibility data before you share it with the community.
Note
If you elect to leave the ACT Community, you will still receive compatibility data from the Microsoft online database. However, you will not receive compatibility data from other ACT users. For more information about the ACT Community, see the ACT Community Technical Reference topics.
To join the ACT Community
- On the Preferences tab, select the Yes, I want to join the ACT Community check box, and then click OK.
To leave the ACT Community
- On the Preferences tab, clear the Yes, I want to join the ACT Community check box, and then click OK.
Sending Your Usage Data to Microsoft
By default, you automatically send your ACT usage data to Microsoft. This helps Microsoft determine specific updates for the ACT, so that it better meets your needs. Participation is strictly voluntary and you can start or stop participating at any time. The following usage data is sent to Microsoft:
Which version of Microsoft® SQL Server® is being used by the ACT database
Total number of 32-bit or 64-bit computers in your organization
Total number of computers on which you are running a Windows® operating system
Which operating system(s) you intend to deploy into your organization
Which operating system(s) you intend to get Windows security updates for
Total number of computers to which you deployed your data-collection packages
To stop sending usage data to Microsoft
- On the Preferences tab, clear the Send ACT usage data to Microsoft check box, and then click OK.
To start sending usage data to Microsoft
- On the Preferences tab, select the Send ACT usage data to Microsoft check box, and then click OK.
Receiving Notification for ACT Updates
You can decide whether the Application Compatibility Manager should automatically check for Application Compatibility Toolkit product updates. If you sign up for automatic notification and the Application Compatibility Manager locates an update, you will receive a prompt to download the latest version.
To receive notifications
- On the Preferences tab, select the Notify me when a newer version of ACT is available (recommended) check box, and then click OK.
To stop receiving notifications
- On the Preferences tab, clear the Notify me when a newer version of ACT is available (recommended) check box, and then click OK.
