  3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  4. In Windows Components, select the Networking Services check box in the list of components, and then click Details.

  5. In Subcomponents of Networking Services, scroll to Windows Internet Name Service (WINS), and clear the check box.

Notes

  • To open Add/Remove Windows Components, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove programs, and then click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  • When you remove WINS, all WINS files are deleted from the server except program files that are in use. When the system is restarted, these files are removed as well.

  • If you do not stop the WINS service in step 1, this procedure only deletes the WINS server registry entries.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
