Configuring terminal concentrators
A terminal concentrator consolidates access to multiple servers. You can use a terminal concentrator to establish remote out-of-band connections through the Telnet protocol over an in-band network connection. For information about selecting a terminal concentrator to complement Emergency Management Services, see Terminal concentrators.
Telnet security features are not standard across terminal concentrators. If your device does not include security features, consider using a secondary private management network that is accessible through a direct-dial remote access or virtual private network (VPN) connection. You can also use a router to secure network traffic to the terminal concentrator.
For more information, see Checklist: Installing and configuring the router and Checklist: Installing and configuring the remote access server.
You can also use Telnet over Internet Protocol security (IPSec) for increased security. See Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) for additional help.
If you choose not to use a terminal concentrator, you can use null modem cables to connect a single networked computer running a Windows Server 2003 operating system to multiple servers running Emergency Management Services.
For more information on selecting and configuring terminal concentrators, see "Emergency Management Services" in Windows Server TechCenter at the Microsoft Web site.
