Install dependent clients
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2
To install dependent clients
Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Application Server check box, click Details, select the Message Queuing check box, and then click Details.
On the Message Queuing page, clear the Active Directory Integration, Triggers, and MSMQ HTTP Support check boxes, select the Common check box, and then click Details.
Clear the Local Storage check box, click OK, click OK, and then click Next.
If prompted, type the DNS or NetBIOS name of a supporting server in the local site. If the specified supporting server cannot be found:
Click Yes to complete setup. Note that the dependent client cannot send or receive messages until a connection with a Message Queuing server is established.
Click No to specify a different Message Queuing server.
Notes
To open Add or Remove Programs, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
The following subcomponents are selected by default for 32-bit servers: Active Directory Integration and Common (consisting of Core functionality and Local Storage).
By default, following installation, Message Queuing servers are not enabled to support dependent clients. For instructions on enabling a Message Queuing computer to act as a supporting server, see Enable a supporting server.
Any Message Queuing server operating in domain mode with at least independent client functionality can serve as the supporting server for a dependent client. Setup automatically attempts to locate such a Message Queuing server in the same site or in a nearby site. If one cannot be located, Setup prompts you for the name of such a server. If the server specified is not available, Setup displays a message stating that the server is not reachable. You can choose to complete setup without a specified server, allowing you to install a dependent client before you install its supporting Message Queuing server. For best security practice, do not configure servers as supporting servers unless this functionality is required.
Dependent clients cannot be installed on computers in workgroup mode or on 64-bit computers.
New Windows Server 2003 family Message Queuing features, such as HTTP transport, Message Queuing Triggers, and sending messages to multiple destinations, are not available to dependent clients. Thus, distribution lists, multiple-element format names, and multicast messaging are not supported for dependent clients.
Dependent clients will no longer be supported in future versions of Message Queuing.
