Configuring FTP Sites
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 with SP1
IIS includes the FTP service for publishing and managing files. FTP uses TCP at the transport layer, so all the data that is exchanged between the server and the client is guaranteed not only to be delivered but also to be delivered intact, as originally sent.
The IIS Admin service, which is physically part of the Inetinfo.exe process, manages the protocols in IIS that are not related to the Web, including FTP. By default, the FTP service is not installed on a server running Windows Server 2003. Once it is installed, the FTP sites start automatically the next time you restart the IIS services.
