Remote administration overview
The following table presents remote management tasks and links to information about the tools. Unless indicated otherwise, these tools are used on Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 operating systems and, in some cases, Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional.

Use Internet Explorer, version 6 or later, for remote administration using Web Interface. Web Interface is not installed by default for Web servers. |

Depending on the Group Policy settings on your network, you might not be able to perform some of these tasks.
Some features require that specific ports be opened on the server in order for the role to be administered remotely. You can use command-line tools to automate many processes and tasks. For more information, see Automating processes and tasks.
You must physically access each computer to restart, change hardware, and enable the Remote Desktop feature. Once the Remote Desktop feature has been enabled, it will remain enabled.
