View the cluster configuration log

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To view the cluster configuration log

  1. Open Command Prompt

  2. Locate the ClCfgSrv.log file.

By default, the log file for the New Server Cluster Wizard and the Add Nodes Wizard can be found at %systemroot%\system32\LogFiles\Cluster\ClCfgSrv.log.

  3. Use any text editor to view the log file.

Important

  • After using the New Server Cluster Wizard and the Add Nodes Wizard from a remote computer, the cluster configuration log file generated by those wizards is saved to the remote computer. This log file may contain company-sensitive data such as a complete description of the cluster configuration, including IP addresses. This information could be used by malicious users to attack the cluster; it is recommended that you restrict access to that file to cluster administrators and the Cluster service account. For more information, see Best practices for securing server clusters.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

  • To open a command prompt, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command prompt.

  • If you do not have administrative rights on the node on which you are using the New Server Cluster Wizard or Add Nodes Wizard, the log file will be written to the local %Temp% directory.

  • This log file contains all of the errors, warnings, and informational messages that have been generated by the New Server Cluster Wizard or the Add Nodes Wizard when creating a new cluster or when the cluster membership changes (for example, if a new node is added to the cluster).

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
