ATM networks

ATM networks are made up of three distinct elements: users (endpoint devices), switches, and interfaces.

In ATM networking, two types of interfaces exist to describe how these elements communicate: user-to-network interfaces (UNIs) and network-to-network interfaces (NNIs).

The UNI and NNI specifications provide a standard signaling method for end stations and ATM switches to communicate.
