Change Power Options for a Device

You can use this procedure to configure how your device interacts with Windows power management. This includes settings that control how the device consumes power under different conditions, and how Windows responds to events from the device when the computer is operating in various power-saving states.
You can use the power management settings to configure a device to "wake up" from a low-power state for an event. One example of the effect of doing so is that an incoming modem call will alert the system to service the call even if the system is in hibernation. You can also specify whether the operating system turns off a specific device if it is not doing something, such as servicing a call.
Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.
To change the power management settings for a device
Double-click the type of device for which you want to change power management settings.
Right-click the device you want, and then click Properties.
On the Power Management tab, change the settings you want.
Additional considerations
- The Power Management tab appears only for device drivers that support the power management standards.
