Resolve

Check integration services version

The version of a component of integration services is incompatible with another version. To fix this problem, remove the existing version from the operating system on the virtual machine. Ensure that you have installed the latest version of Hyper-V (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=122188),  and then install integration services again.

Check virtual machine state

If you were trying to take a VSS snapshot, try manually saving the virtual machine and then retry the VSS snapshot operation.

If you were trying to restore a VSS snapshot, try turning off the virtual machine manually and then retry the restore operation.

If you tried an abort of the writer operation or if the backup application has crashed, set the virtual machine to the running state manually and then try the backup operation again after the state transition is completed.

For more information about snapshots, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=147648.

Check Guest for failed VSS Snapshot

Please check the event log in the guest to analyze why the VSS snapshot failed and then retry the operation.

Retry VSS snapshot operation

Retry the VSS Snapshot operation.

For more information about snapshots, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=147648.

Retry the restore operation

Retry restoring the virtual machine from backup.

Check file location

Change the restore location and then try the operation again.

Check VDEV version

Ensure that the version of the virtual device driver (VDEV) installed in the virtual machine matches that of the virtualization server (somteimes called a host). If not, reinstall the integration components in the virtual machine.

Verify

The integration services are all shown in a running state in the service control manager of the virtual machine. All the guest Hyper-V drivers are in a healthy state. Additionally, any operations that involve the integration services complete successfully.
