Event ID 1065 — NFS User Name Mapping Connection

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

User Name Mapping associates user accounts between Windows and UNIX domains. User Name Mapping associates Windows and UNIX user names so that users logged onto a UNIX domain can access shared resources on Windows without logging on separately to the Windows domain.

Message: Server for NFS could not obtain updated mapping information from User Name Mapping. Server for NFS will continue to use the mapping information it has and make another attempt after %2 minutes. If this problem persists, Server for NFS mapping information may become significantly out-of-date and may not be able grant file access to users. Verify that the User Name Mapping service is started either locally or on the remote server, and that User Name Mapping ports are open on firewalls.

Configure Services for NFS to use an identity mapping source

To configure Services for NFS to use an identity mapping source:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. Type nfsadmin mapping to display and configure identity mapping settings.

Verify

To verify Services for NFS is properly configured for User Name Mapping:

  1. Open a command prompt with elevated privileges. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. Type nfsadmin mapping.
  3. Verify that the Mapping Service field in the list displays your installed LDAP service.
