Enable operator-assisted calls or manual dialing

You can use this procedure to configure your computer to allow you to manually dial a number, or to give you an opportunity to call an operator and have the call dialed for you.
Any user account can be used to complete this procedure.
To enable operator-assisted calls or manual dialing
Open the Network Connections folder and view available connections.
Press ALT to display the menu bar, and then on the Advanced menu, click Operator-Assisted Dialing.
Double-click the connection you want to dial.
Pick up the telephone handset, and then dial the number or ask the operator to dial it for you.
The number assigned to the entry is displayed in the dialog box for easy reference.
Immediately after you have finished dialing, click Dial.
Hang up the handset only after the modem takes control of the line, which is typically signaled by a click followed by silence.
It is always safe to replace the handset after Network Connections begins verifying your user name and password. The status message will remind you of this.
Additional considerations
- If operator-assisted dialing is enabled, a check mark appears next to Operator-Assisted Dialing on the Advanced menu.
