Modify an Existing Connection

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can modify the properties of an existing connection in the Remote Desktops snap-in. Some of the properties that you can modify include the computer name, logon information, desktop size, and authentication options.

Any user account can be used to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477.

To modify an existing connection

  1. Open the Remote Desktops snap-in. To do this, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Terminal Services, and then click Remote Desktops.

  2. In the console tree, expand Remote Desktops.

  3. Right-click the connection that you want to modify, and then click Properties.

  4. Make the modifications that you want.

    • Click the General tab to modify the computer or connection name, whether to connect to a session by using the /admin option, or to modify your logon information.

Important

If you configure a program to start on connection on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP, you must clear the Connect with /admin option check box on the General tab.

Under **Logon information**, if you have not saved your logon credentials, you can select the **Allow me to save credentials** check box. Your credentials will be saved the next time that you connect to the remote computer through the Remote Desktops snap-in.

If you have previously saved your logon credentials, you can click **edit** or **delete** to modify or to remove your credentials.

If you have saved your credentials, but want to temporarily log on as a different user, you can select the **Always ask for credentials** check box. To use your saved credentials again, clear this check box.

  - Click the **Screen Options** tab to modify the desktop size.

  - Click the **Other** tab to configure or to modify a program that starts on connection, to modify the authentication method, or to modify drive redirection settings.

  1. When you are finished, click OK.
