Add a .NET User (IIS 7)

Add a user when you want to use IIS to define a user name, e-mail address, password, and security question for initiating an automatic account reset should a user lose or forget their password. If the .NET Roles feature is enabled, you can add users to roles as you create them.

To add users

You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI) or by writing WMI scripts.

User Interface

To use the UI

  1. Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7).

  2. In Features View, double-click .NET Users.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Add.

  4. In the .NET User Account Details dialog box, enter the following information:

    • User Name (must be unique)

    • E-mail (must use standard format: name@domain.com)

    • Password (must be a strong password)

    • Confirm Password (must match the password)

    • Question (enter a custom question or select from the list)

    • Answer

  5. Click Next to select roles for this user. If you have not enabled .NET Roles, click Finish.

  6. In the .NET User Roles dialog box, optionally select available roles from the Roles box, and then click Finish.
