Event ID 1025 — DHCP BOOTP Boot File Configuration

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

The Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) is a host configuration protocol developed before Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). DHCP improves on BOOTP and resolves its limitations as a host configuration service.

To configure your DHCP server to assign Internet Protocol (IP) address information to BOOTP clients, you must add a reservation for each BOOTP client. The reservation builds an association between the media access control (MAC)  address and the IP address.

Event Details

Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 1025
Source: Microsoft-Windows-DHCP-Server
Version: 6.0
Symbolic Name: EVENT_SERVER_BOOT_FILE_TABLE
Message: The DHCP service was unable to read the BOOTP file table from the registry. The DHCP service will be unable to respond to BOOTP requests that specify the boot file name.

Resolve

Create or add entries to the BOOTP table

By default, the BOOTP table is empty. If the BOOTP table is missing or empty, BOOTP cannot read the table to obtain configuration information for its clients.

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To create or add an entry to the BOOTP table:

  1. At the DHCP server computer, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click DHCP.
  2. In the DHCP console tree, click BOOTP Table.
  3. On the Action menu, click New Boot Image.
  4. In the Add BOOTP Entry dialog box, enter the required information.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Repeat the previous two steps for each additional BOOTP entry you want to add, and then click Close.

Verify

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that the BOOTP table exists and has entries, perform the following steps:

  1. At the DHCP server computer, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click DHCP.
  2. In the DHCP console tree, click the DHCP server you want to configure.
  3. On the Action menu, click Properties.
  4. Verify that the Show the BOOTP table folder check box is selected.
  5. If the check box is cleared, select it, and then click OK.
  6. In the DHCP console tree, click BOOTP Table.
  7. BOOTP entries, if any have been added to the BOOTP table, appear in the details pane.
