All network access servers from which you want NPS to receive connection requests must be configured in the NPS console as RADIUS clients. When you configure RADIUS clients in the NPS console, you are enabling NPS to receive connection requests from the network access servers. In addition, you must separately configure the physical network access servers to send connection requests to the NPS server.
If you configure the NPS server as a RADIUS proxy, NPS forwards connection requests to other RADIUS servers for processing. These RADIUS servers, which can be NPS servers or other RADIUS servers, must be configured in the NPS console as members of a remote RADIUS server group. When you configure RADIUS servers as members of a remote RADIUS server group in the NPS console, you are enabling NPS to forward connection requests to the remote RADIUS servers. In addition, you must separately configure the physical RADIUS servers to receive connection requests from the NPS proxy server.
The following topics provide more detail about RADIUS clients and remote RADIUS server groups.
