Remote Desktop IP Virtualization allows you to assign a unique IP address to a user session or on a per program basis. You must have a DHCP scope configured with enough IP addresses for all sessions or programs on an RD Session Host server.

Resolve
Check Remote Desktop IP Virtualization configuration settings
To resolve this issue, confirm that the Remote Desktop IP Virtualization settings are configured correctly by using the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool.
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To check the Remote Desktop IP Virtualization settings by using Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration:
- On the RD Session Host server, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.
- Under the RD IP Virtualization heading, double-click IP Virtualization.
- Confirm the following settings:
- The Enable IP virtualization check box is selected.
- The appropriate network adapter is shown in the Select the network adapter to be used for IP virtualization box.
- Ensure that the appropriate IP virtualization mode is selected, either Per session or Per program. If you are using Per program, ensure that the appropriate programs are shown in the Assign virtual IP addresses to these programs box.
Note: You can also specify Remote Desktop IP Virtualization settings for an RD Session Host server by using Group Policy.
- To specify Remote Desktop IP Virtualization settings by using Group Policy, enable the Group Policy settings in Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Application Compatibility. Note that the Group Policy settings will take precedence over the settings configured in Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.
- To configure the Group Policy settings in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), use the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). To configure the Group Policy settings locally on an RD Session Host server, use the Local Group Policy Editor. Verify
To verify that an IP address has been assigned to a session or a specified program, you must use Event Viewer and confirm that Event 103 in the Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-TSAppSrv-TSVIP event source was written to the System event log.
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To confirm that Event 103 was written to the System event log:
- On the RD Session Host server, open Event Viewer. To open Event Viewer, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.
- If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Yes.
- In the left pane, expand Windows Logs, and then click System.
- Look for an event with a Source of Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-TSAppSrv-TSVIP and an Event ID of 103. This event indicates that an IP address was assigned to either a session or program.
