NFS: Services for Network File System should be used or uninstalled

Issue

No Network File System (NFS) shares (exports) are configured for Services for Network File System.

Impact

Users will not be able to access shared folders by using the NFS protocol. The unused service will consume system resources and increase the surface area for malicious users to attack without providing any functionality to users.

Resolution

Use Share and Storage Management to provision one or more NFS shares, or uninstall Services for Network File System if it is not being used.

To share the content of folders and volumes that are stored on your server, you can use the Provision a Shared Folder Wizard in Share and Storage Management.

Membership in the Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To share the content of folders and volumes

  1. In Administrative Tools, click Share and Storage Management.

  2. In the Actions pane, click Provision Share.

  3. In the Provision a Shared Folder Wizard, enter the location of the folder that you want to share, and then proceed through the wizard.
