This setting configures the client computer’s connection speed.

This setting corresponds to the selections for Choose your connection speed to optimize performance on the Experience tab under Options in Remote Desktop Connection.

Syntax

connection type:i:<value>

Values

Value Explanation

When connecting to the remote computer, set the connection speed to Modem (56 Kbps).

With this setting, the following are allowed:

  • Persistent bitmap caching

When connecting to the remote computer, set the connection speed to Low-speed broadband (256 Kbps – 2 Mbps).

With this setting, the following are allowed:

  • Visual styles

  • Persistent bitmap caching

When connecting to the remote computer, set the connection speed to Satellite (2Mbps – 16 Mbps with high latency).

With this setting, the following are allowed:

  • Desktop composition

  • Visual styles

  • Persistent bitmap caching

When connecting to the remote computer, set the connection speed to High-speed broadband (2Mbps – 10 Mbps).

With this setting, the following are allowed:

  • Desktop composition

  • Visual styles

  • Persistent bitmap caching

When connecting to the remote computer, set the connection speed to WAN (10 Mbps or higher with high latency).

With this setting, the following are allowed:

  • Desktop background

  • Font smoothing

  • Desktop composition

  • Show window contents while dragging

  • Menu and window animation

  • Visual styles

  • Persistent bitmap caching

When connecting to the remote computer, set the connection speed to LAN (10 Mbps or higher).

With this setting, the following are allowed:

  • Desktop background

  • Font smoothing

  • Desktop composition

  • Show window contents while dragging

  • Menu and window animation

  • Visual styles

  • Persistent bitmap caching

Important
This setting is required to use Microsoft RemoteFX.

The default value is 2.

Examples

To configure the client computer’s connection speed to Modem (56 Kbps), type:

To configure the client computer’s connection speed to use RemoteFX, type:
