Azure Health Data Services offers a suite of technologies that empower healthcare organizations to manage health data securely and compliantly. Azure Health Data Services streamlines the handling of various health data types, supports interoperability, and enables advanced analytics.

Healthcare organizations today face critical considerations for managing health data that include a growing volume of data, an expanding variety of data formats, and real-time velocity for data availability. Some of the most common challenges with health data include:

  • Health data is siloed. Care and innovation are stifled without an ability to cross-reference or merge coincident data from different sources.

  • Health data structures are non-uniform. Nonstandardized data creates critical problems. Translating non-uniform health data into a standard format can be labor-intensive and error-prone and is a barrier to AI/machine learning and analytics workloads.

  • De-identification of non-uniform data is difficult and time-consuming. De-identification of data is often required by law.

  • Geographically unique datasets. These datasets (that is, population health data) are difficult to transform for research.
