Set up and manage production-related reservations

Completed

The following options are available for configuration of the production-related material reservation at Production control > Setup > Production control parameters > General > Reservation.

The Reservation parameter specifies at which stage of the production the reservation of the raw materials in production BOM will be done:

  • Manual

  • Estimation

  • Scheduling

  • Start

  • Release

This parameter can be overwritten in production order details for a selected production order, if needed. The system will physically reserve quantities available at that time.

You can see and update physically reserved quantity of a production BOM line under when you navigate to the production BOM line > Inventory > Reservation > Reservation.

The Override default production reservation feature lets you set a default reservation principle for each item model group. Therefore, different reservation principles can automatically be applied for each item that’s part of a production bill of materials (BOM) or batch order formula. You can select whether each item model group should override the default reservation principle that’s set for an order, and what reservation principle should be used instead, including manual, estimation, scheduling, release, or start.

There are three options for the Material reservation parameter:

  • Require full reservation: Select this option if you want to create wave lines and picking work only if all of the materials that are required by a production order can be reserved when the order is released. If all materials aren’t available, wave lines and work aren’t created. However, the status of the order will change to Released.

  • Allow partial reservation: Select this option if you want to create wave lines even though some of the materials that are required by a production order aren’t available when the order is released. If the materials become available later, you can release the order again by using the Release to warehouse.

  • Use production BOM value: Use the value specified on the production BOM line in the Release to warehouse field.

The Prevent production orders to be released when full material is not available feature adds the option that when full material reservation is set to Require full reservation under Production parameters, and not all material is available when trying to release a production order, the production order will remain in status Scheduled and not change to Released.

Material availability check in the production floor workspace

You can verify material availability for scheduled production orders by navigating to Production floor management workspace > Select a date > Production orders to release.

Here you can see job scheduled or operation scheduled production orders and can execute Material availability check for one or more selected production orders. Material availability check updates the indicator in the Ready to be released field for the production order and for each production BOM line. Material availability check can help you define if the materials are available for reservation and if a production order is ready to be released. Make sure you assign a production unit to the resource groups and select a date to see scheduled production orders in this workspace. You can release production orders from this form based on material check outcome.

Reserve remaining quantities for production

When partial reservation is allowed, and remaining quantities become available you can reserve them manually from the production BOM line details by navigating to Inventory > Reservation or for example release production order again if the reservation is set to Release.

When you use warehouse management, physical reservation of the quantities is required for the creation of the warehouse work.
