Exercise - Create a product configuration model
To get the most benefit from this exercise, we recommend that you have the standard sample data available in Supply Chain Management that you can install by using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Lifecycle Services.
Create components for product configuration models
As a product designer in the USMF company, you need to create components before you can build a product model. Constraint-based product configuration models use components as building blocks to establish the product model structure.
Go to Product information management > Products > Product configuration models.
Select Components.
Select New.
In the Name field in the upper and lower parts of the page, enter Home Audio High End Speaker.
In the Description field, enter Home Audio High End Speaker.
Select Save.
Create a product configuration model
To create a product configuration model, follow these steps:
Go to Product information management > Products > Product configuration models.
Select New.
In the Name field, enter Home Audio HE Speakers.
Under the Root component section, select the Select existing component option.
Select Home Audio High End Speaker from the dropdown menu.
Select OK.
Under the General FastTab, select Yes in the Reuse configurations menu.
Expand the Attributes FastTab.
Select Add.
In the Name field, enter Case color.
In the Solver name field, enter CaseColor.
In the Description field, enter Available colors for HE Speaker.
In the Attribute type field, enter or select Cabinet finish.
Select the Set default checkbox.
In the Default value field, enter or select Oak.
Select the Include in reuse checkbox.
Select Add.
In the Name field, enter Front grill.
In the Solver name field, enter FrontGrill.
In the Description field, enter Select the type of front grill for your HE Speaker.
In the Attribute type field, enter or select Front grill.
Select the Set default checkbox.
Select the Include in reuse checkbox.
In the Default value field, enter or select Black.
Select Add.
In the Name field, enter Corner protection.
In the Solver name field, enter CornerProtection.
In the Description field, enter Should the eBook have corner protection?
In the Attribute type field, enter or select Corner protection.
Clear the Set default checkbox.
Select the Include in reuse checkbox.
Collapse the Attributes tab.
Add sub components
To add sub components, follow these steps:
Expand the Subcomponents FastTab.
Select Add.
In the Name field, enter Insurance.
In the Solver name field, enter Insurance.
Enter Do you need Insurance? in the Description field.
In the Component field, enter or select Insurance.
Select Save.
Collapse the Subcomponents section.
Add sub BOM lines
To add sub BOM lines, follow these steps:
Expand the BOM lines FastTab.
Select Add.
In the Name field, enter M0055.
In the Description field, enter M0055.
Select Save.
Select the BOM line details link.
In the Item number field, enter or select M0055.
Select the checkbox and then set the Calculation toggle to Yes.
Select the Setup tab in the upper part of the slide-out window.
Select the checkbox next to Quantity and then set the value to 1.0000.
Select the checkbox next to Per series and then set the value to 1.
Select the Dimension tab in the upper part of the slide-out window.
Select the checkbox next to the Warehouse field and then enter 11.
Select OK.
Collapse the BOM lines section.
