SAP GUI Recipe for Microsoft App-V 5.0

~ Sebastian Gernert | Escalation Engineer

GearsHi everyone, my name is Sebastian and I’m an Escalation Engineer in Germany for Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V). For a while now, one of my responsibilities has been to liaise with SAP so that APP-V 5.0 is a supported platform when virtualizing the SAP GUI, and now SAP has released an update in SAP Note 66971 so that SAP GUI 7.30 PL10 and SAP GUI 7.40 PL1 are supported on APP-V 5.0 SP2 HF4 and higher.

Many thanks to all of my colleagues from SAP who take the time to validate these packages.

With the release of this update, I have taken the opportunity to write a small recipe describing how I build such packages. The recipe can be found here but keep in mind that it is a living doc so if we encounter issues or limitations we will note those here as well.

The recipe is based on App-V 5.0 SP2 HF4 (so yes we create a PVAD) in a later revision of the document I will address that. Even though I am German I wrote the recipe in English for a broader audience.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy it!

Sebastian Gernert | Escalation Engineer | Microsoft GBS Management and Security Division

Hi Sebastian, I have sequenced SAPGUI 7.4 on windows 7 x64 bit. Most of the functionality working as expected. So far key users found one issue where SXmb_ifr command does not open IE Browser. After running processmon I found that instead of launching Iexplore.exe it is launching ielowutil.exe. From the processmon log I discovered that it read Wow6432nodeclsid{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} which points to C:Program Files (x86)Internet Explorerielowutil.exe -{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}.
    Have you encountered this issue.?

    Thanks in advance

Enable COM + Named Objects interaction and this should work again.

however this breaks BEXs Analzyer... (you need to create a separate package with normal COM/Named Objects Isolation settings)

Not sure if this is the right platform to address a SAP GUI 7.4 issue we have under Windows 8.1. But perhaps you can help.

When running a SAP certified 3rd party application designed to do forecasting in PS (Project System), we see that if the current font (as set in SAP GUI Options) is any greater than 6, the graph does not generate (the characters bunch up to the left). We know this is not an application issue because under Windows 7 the problem does not exist. Only when 8.1 is used do we experience the issue.

Perhaps you can point me in a direction where this kind of issue can be addressed.

    Many thanks, Kieron Dowling

Hi, I have successfully sequenced SAPBEX with Office 2013 but I now have to sequence the newest patch level 7 of SAPGUI 7.4 with Office365. Once sequenced Excel at best loads with VBA and Active X errors and the add-in to Business Analyser does not function. Most of my attempts Excel does not open. Task manager says that excel.exe and Business Analyser are running.Do you have a recipe for this scenario SAPGUI 7.4 patch level 7 with Office365???Many ThanksDan

Thx for the recipe. We use RDS with locally installed SAPGui 7.40 . We now have the request to publish SAPGui 7.30 to some users on these servers. We packaged SAPGui 7.30 using this recipe and it works. But when publish this package SAPGui 7.40 is not working anymore. SAPGui 7.40 starts but then we get a graphical bug when connecting to a SAP system. You can't see login/password fields. As soon as we unpublish SAPGui 7.30 the locally installed SAPGui 7.40 works fine again.
