Bouncing Baby Blog

Hi! My name is Alex Kochis and I've just joined the Windows Genuine Advantage team product management team.  I’m starting this blog because I would like to share some of the cool things our team is doing and because we want to hear from you. We want to know what you like and don’t like about WGA and our efforts to reduce piracy of Microsoft products while at the same time offering great benefits to users of genuine and licensed Microsoft software. I also want to know what you think we can do to make WGA better. Lastly, I like working for Microsoft so much I wanted to have a place to share some of the very cool things I see and hear happening across the company (that I can share!).

Quite a bit of information about our program as well as our validation tools for Windows and Microsoft Office can be found at: https://www.microsoft.com/genuine

BTW, I will enable comments to start with and look forward to a frank and honest exchange of ideas. Also, I won’t be offering any technical support through this blog but I am happy to point people to the numerous support resources we have.

With that I would like to welcome readers to the WGA blog!

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Alex maybe you might have an answer.  I had a computer running a legal copy of Window 2000 Pro.  I had a problem and took the computer to a computer shop, yes I got suckered... I was told with XP it's easier for software & hardware repairs.  The company was called AESE Systems Intl Inc. in Chino, Ca. and was charged $180.00 for the install and was given no backup CD, they stated that the "backup CD" was installed on the hard drive, I used my Visa to pay for it on May 15th, 2005....
The company is now out of business, I wished that Microsoft would have acted with this notice sooner instead of waiting over a year in my case.  Nothing that Microsoft has offered would help me save any money and what they have offered for a good copy of XP I can't qualify for since I don't hace the CD.   My only recourse is to contact the local police department and fill out a police report and maybe the police go through the old business licenses and go after the closed company.  I don't think there is much Microsoft could do since the company is out of business.

Now another more important question....  the copy of Windows XP I have has major problems, it won't defrag any of my 2 hard drives, if I try to insert any CD, picture card, disk etc. after the system has already started I have to reboot the computer in order to have it read and start using the CD's or picture cards.  If I purchase the WGA will it help correct the problems.  I have so much stuff on my hard drive that I can't wipe it out and start over.  I have no problem purchasing the WMA, I just don't want to create more problems that I already have on the system.  Would it be better maybe to purchase a new hard drive and a fresh new Windows XP software and just disable the current Windows XP?  I'm also using service pack 2.

    Sorry but I'm lost......

Microsoft says I can purchase Windows XP from a retailer, not anymore I can't trust anyone, I thought that company who is "out of business" had Microsoft banners plastered all over their shop, I'll just order it direct from Microsoft.... I'm sure once people in the City of Chino California who used this company for repairs and having XP installed on their computers will have the police very busy filing reports, I'm going to write my 2 local newpapers and have people make sure they file police reports against this company.... maybe they will go back and get them.

Anyway please let me know what WMA can do for me ...... Thanks
