If the method succeeds, it returns S_OK. If it fails, it returns an error code.

HRESULT IVsTextScanner::OpenScan();

This method locks the buffer and does a garbage-collection pass, which is expensive, so one should not use this in a QueryStatus handler or other speed-intensive scenario.
