The following features are new in Windows Mobile 6. Additional software requirements are listed with each feature. If there are any additional hardware requirements, those requirements are also listed.

Mobile Messaging Features	Description
E-mail Setup User Experience	The Messaging Application and the ActiveSync Framework have been enhanced to support: Access to ActiveSync settings from the Messaging Application Discoverability of e-mail messaging setup This feature improves the end user's ActiveSync/Exchange Server e-mail setup experience. Requires Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
Exchange Server Search for E-mail	Search for Exchange Server e-mail enables Windows Mobile users to search their Microsoft Exchange mailbox for items that match specified criteria. The search results are downloaded and displayed in a Search Results folder. Having the ability to search for any e-mail message in the user’s Exchange Server store is a feature that keeps users from being hampered by a mobile device’s limited storage space. Users can access messages in the Exchange Server message store without having to return to their desktop. Requires Exchange Server 2007.
Fetch Mail	The Fetch Mail feature is a single-item e-mail messaging operation that gives the user the ability to download a single e-mail message in its entirety, including inline images and attachments, instead of having to invoke a full Send/Receive. It increases the speed and efficiency with which the end user can triage e-mail and economizes data usage by limiting a download to just the content that the user wants. When the Fetch completes, the rest of the message is filled in, without leaving the read form and without changing the user's scrolling position within the e-mail message. The Fetch Mail feature is available in both the read form and the list view. Requires Exchange Server 2007.
HTML Support in E-mail	HTML e-mail support is an enhancement to the Messaging Application (Inbox, tmail.exe), that allows end users to receive, view, compose, and send e-mail in HTML format. It supports all messaging transports (ActiveSync, POP, IMAP, and Exchange Server 12). Users can now configure their messaging account with their preferred download format (either plain text or HTML). The user experience gives the user the impression that the message is as fast as a plain text equivalent of the same message. A “First Look” of the mail renders before the full content is rendered. Message may "paint" or "render" progressively but without layout shifting or resizing. You can’t tell whether a reply originated from the device or from the desktop. It maintains thread integrity. Supports HTML Smart Reply, Inline Smart Forward, Compose, and Fetch. Fixed a known issue with forwarded e-mail that was sent as an attachment. Forwarded e-mail is not shown inline, as it is in desktop Outlook. E-mail can contain hyperlinks to content on the Web. Includes a user interface for controlling the presentation of an HTML mail message (View and Zoom). HTML mail on conforms to all SWI security standards and is as secure as Outlook Web Access when handling offsite content and invisible Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) files. The security user interface allows users to control the downloading of offsite content, as well as the navigation to Internet content. Policy and user options: Control of the HTML payload per account through the following configuration service provider and user options: The enterprise or operator can set up a lock to support HTML or plain text defaults. The default mail format and download size are configurable by the configuration service provider and by the end user in the user interface. The default download size is specific to HTML in contrast to the plain text global setting per account (assuming that the optimum setting is not the same for POP vs. Active Sync/Exchange Server).
Online Global Address Book	The Online Global Address Book gives end users the ability to search for contacts in an enterprise online address book. This feature provides the following support: It integrates the Global Address List (GAL) search experience into the existing Contacts Application. It enables users to look up a contact in the GAL. It enables users to send e-mail or a text message or to call a person they looked up from the returned results. It enables users to add contacts they looked up to their Contacts lists. It provides extensibility features so that mail and other applications can leverage the GAL look-up functionality. Requires Exchange Server 2007.
Forms Improvements	The usability of the Messaging Application's Compose and Read forms has been enhanced.
Messaging Outlook Flags	Outlook Mobile now supports the use of Follow-up Flags on e-mail messages. Specifically: Users can now flag outbound e-mail messages. Flags and related properties on a message are synchronized between the Microsoft Exchange server and the mobile device. Functionality has been added to set/clear/complete flags from the list view and read forms. E-mail message reminders are integrated into the device-wide notification system. Mobile devices now display similar reminders to the desktop. The flags are disabled or hidden in the user interface for previous versions of Exchange Server partnerships. Requires Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
SharePoint Document Attachment	SharePoint Document Attachment gives mobile users the ability to open links that are embedded in HTML e-mail to documents that are stored on SharePoint servers. This can be used as an alternative to attaching documents to e-mail messages, which is costly in terms of bandwidth and storage. In addition, this approach ensures that the recipient receives the most recent version of a document. Generally, mobile users are unable to access documents from outside an enterprise firewall, but this problem is solved by using Exchange Server as a proxy or redirector for the document. This approach allows HTML e-mail to contain links to SharePoint documents just like standard attachments. Provides read-only access to items that are stored both on a SharePoint site and in Universal Naming Convention (UNC) shares. Requires Exchange Server 2007.
Smart Filter in Messaging	Smart Filter in Messaging limits the number of e-mail messages that are displayed in the Messaging Application's list view to only those that match a set of user-defined conditions. This gives users an easy way to find the exact messages that they want, without having to scan through a lengthy list of messages. Users will find this feature useful because only a small number of messages can be shown on the list view screen due to its small size. This gives users a simpler, more powerful, and familiar method for quickly accessing the messages they are looking for. Being able to quickly filter the Messaging list view will help users triage and manage their messages. Having a filtering experience that is consistent with the experience in Contacts helps discoverability in both applications.
Improved Hardware Functionality	Improved Hardware Functionality enhances the end user's experience of the Messaging Application (Inbox) by enhancing keyboard and keypad support. The improvements include: Keyboard shortcuts for keyboard/12-key and 30-key keypad-equipped devices for a core set of functions in both List View and Read Form Shortcut keys for keyboarded devices that mimic those on the desktop Outlook client Shortcut keys configurable by OEMs.
Information Rights Management E-mail Messages	The Messaging Application now supports receiving, replying to, forwarding, and composing of Information Rights Management (IRM)-protected mail. Organizations that take advantage of IRM can improve the mobile messaging experience for their users. Without the ability to work fully with IRM e-mail, organizations that use IRM extensively have a less satisfactory mobile messaging experience. IRM is a feature that is unique to Windows Mobile, and any competitive advantage it brings to the platform will be lost if users cannot use the feature fully. The feature supports the following: Reply, Reply All, and Forward. When permitted, Reply, Forward, or Reply All on IRM-protected e-mail Preservation of all rights restrictions on the original message Inclusion of the original message text thread. Support for creating new mail with “Do Not Forward” permissions. (This is the same out-of-the-box experience present in Microsoft Office 2003 and the 2007 Microsoft Office system.) Provide special rights to the owner of a conversation.
