Keeping the Registry Current on the Licensing Server
The Windows Media License Service stores a list of client security component versions in its registry. If these keys have not been updated, and a client with a newer security version attempts to acquire a license, the request will fail with the error DRM_E_LIC_UNAUTHORIZED_DRM_CLIENT. To prevent this error, the licensing server administrator must make sure that the server has the most current security versions and keys in its registry. This information can be updated automatically at the Microsoft Web site, or it can be updated manually by modifying the registry. Updating this information will prevent you from issuing licenses to clients with old security components.
Important It is strongly advised that you update the security versions automatically at the Microsoft Web site. Because version numbers are periodically updated, the registry values in the previous procedure may no longer be valid. The registry values shown in this section may change as future versions of the security components are released.
To update the registry automatically (recommended)
- On the computer running the Windows Media License Service, go to the following Microsoft Web site: https://licenseserver.windowsmedia.com/
- Click Download the Latest License Server Information to update the registry entries automatically.
To update the registry manually
- Open the Registry Editor and browse to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WM Rights Manager\LicenseServer\VerificationKeys - Change the value of the registry key 2.1.0.0 in this path to:
