Configuring the Internal Database Server

This topic provides information about the test tier database server in a Commerce Server 2009 enterprise deployment. This server contains the databases for the test Web server, and provides a safe environment where internal users can test site updates without affecting the run-time services in the production environment. After the updates are approved, you can stage the data to the database server in the staging environment in preparation for run-time publishing.

You can use Commerce Server 2009 with a database server that is running SQL Server 2005 with Service Pack 2 or SQL Server 2008.

Follow these steps to configure the internal database server:

  1. Install all prerequisite software. See What Are the Software Deployment Requirements?

  2. Configure the network adapters. See Configuring the Network Adapters.

  3. Join the database server to the domain. For more information, see the Windows Server Help for the version of Windows Server that you are using.

  4. Install the appropriate version of SQL Server on the database server. Choose one of the following:

  5. Configure your SQL Server database by using the appropriate accounts and roles. See How to Associate Database Accounts with Database Roles.
