user Element for credentials for authentication (ASP.NET Settings Schema) 

Adds a definition of user name and password credentials to the collection of credentials.

This method of storing credentials should be used only in applications that don't require a high level of security.

Attributes and Elements

The following sections describe attributes, child elements, and parent elements.

Attributes

Attribute Description

name

Required attribute.

The logon user name.

password

Required attribute.

The user's password.

Element Description

configuration

The required root element in every configuration file used by the common language runtime and .NET Framework applications.

system.web

Specifies the root element for the ASP.NET configuration settings in a configuration file. Contains configuration elements that configure ASP.NET Web applications and control how the applications behave.

authentication

Configures the ASP.NET authentication scheme that is used to identify users who view an ASP.NET application.

forms

Configures an ASP.NET application for custom forms-based authentication.

credentials

Allows optional definition of name and password credentials within the configuration file.

Remarks

The user element adds a definition of user name and password credentials to the collection of credentials.

Example

The following example sets password format and supplies a user name and password.
