Single-tiered Proxy

The single-tiered proxy scenario is illustrated in the following diagram.

The client is configured to use P1 as a proxy server. Typically, the proxy can be configured to:

• Connect to the origin server and proxy the requested content to the client.

• Redirect the client to an alternate origin server. For more information, see URL Redirection.

• Redirect the client to an alternate proxy server. For more information, see Proxy Redirection.

• Stream the content from cache.

• Roll over to a different protocol than that specified by the client.

• Disconnect the client.

Windows Media Services uses a cache proxy plug-in to implement any or all of the preceding policy decisions.
