Startup Server Selection (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

A startup server is a mechanism that downloads files to a target device, and then runs the files on the target device. The startup server copies files required by the Platform Manager transport to the target device. The startup server then runs the files, activating the transport and establishing communication between the development workstation and the target device.

The practice of using a startup server to load the Platform Manager transport on demand is an efficient use of memory resources on the target device. For more information about transports, see Transport Selection.
