When the CPU is idle and peripherals are not accessing SDRAM, the only power SDRAM consumes is that of the SDRAM's self-refresh circuitry. Furthermore, for a particular SDRAM technology and memory density, the self-refresh power consumption scales linearly with the amount of installed SDRAM.
Therefore, to reduce power consumption, include only as much SDRAM as required for your specific use scenarios.
