Adding a Catalog Item to a Catalog File (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/6/2010

In Platform Builder for Windows Embedded CE 6.0, you can add a Catalog item to the Catalog file by using the Catalog Editor to add the Catalog item to a new Catalog item (.pbcxml) file or to an existing Catalog item file. For information about creating a Catalog item file, see Using the Catalog Editor to Create a Catalog File.

After you have added a Catalog item to the Catalog file, you can add the Catalog item to the Catalog. For information about adding a Catalog item to the Catalog, see Adding a Catalog Item to the Catalog.

Adding a Catalog item to a new Catalog file

  1. Create a Catalog file in the Catalog Editor.

  2. From the Catalog Editor toolbar, select Add, and then select Catalog Item.

When you select Catalog Item, Platform Builder creates an empty Catalog item object in the Third Party folder.

In the Properties pane of the Catalog Editor, you can now view and modify the metadata of the Catalog item that you are adding.

For information about modifying the metadata of the Catalog item, see Using the Catalog Editor to Edit an Existing Catalog File.

Adding a Catalog item to an existing Catalog file

  1. Open a Catalog file in the Catalog Editor.

For more information, see Using the Catalog Editor to Open an Existing Catalog File.

  2. Select the node to which you want to add the Catalog item. You can choose to add the item to either a BSP node or a Core OS node.

  3. From the Catalog Editor toolbar, select Add, and then select Catalog item.

    • If you want to add the Catalog item to an existing BSP node, the vendor for the BSP must be the same as the vendor for the Catalog file.
The Catalog item is specific to the selected BSP.
    • If you want to add the Catalog item to a Core OS node, the vendor for the Core OS must be the same as the vendor for the Catalog file.
The Catalog item is specific to the selected Core OS.
    • If you want to add the Catalog item to a subfolder for organizational purposes, you must select a name for the subfolder that you create to contain the item that you are adding.

When you select Catalog item, Platform Builder creates an empty Catalog item object in the location that you have specified.

  4. In the Properties pane of the Catalog Editor, you can now view and modify the metadata for the Catalog item that you are adding.
