Registry Overview (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/6/2010

Windows Embedded CE supports two types of registries: RAM-based and hive-based.

The registry type is invisible to applications, but changes the persistence, boot sequence and speed, and memory usage on a target device. The choice of registry type and registry settings also affects the behavior of user profiles.

User profile support is present in all file system configurations. No components need to be added to use user profiles.

By default, Windows Embedded CE 6.0 and later implements the hive-based registry.
